SarahAnn Hunt Joins the Summit Counseling Center

The Summit Counseling Center is pleased to announce that SarahAnn Hunt has joined their team as a Staff Therapist in the Child and Adolescent Program. SarahAnn is passionate about entering into the lives of children at difficult times, and helping them to successfully gain the skills they need to write their next chapter. Her areas of specialty include working with children that are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, and anger management problems, as well as working with children struggling with transitions, such as the divorce of their parents. She is also passionate about working with children who have been victims of abuse, and helping them to find healing.

Ms. Hunt employs play therapy techniques from both directive and non-directive orientations. “I believe in using play therapy techniques in order to see the world through the same lens as each child I work with and also as a way to facilitate the process of healing, growth, and gaining hope,” said Hunt.

“SarahAnn will be a great asset to the child and adolescent program at the Summit”, said David Smith, Executive Director. “It is estimated that 13% – 20% of children and adolescents living in the United States will experience a mental disorder in a given year and our community is not immune from these statistics. Through our partnerships with local schools, churches and non-profit organizations, we are striving to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and remove some of the current barriers that prevent children and their families from receiving needed care.”

Prior to her work at the Summit, SarahAnn worked at Peachford Hospital, in both the Child and Adolescent Unit, and on the Adult Units. During this time, she formulated treatment plans, conducted group therapy and individual sessions, co-led family sessions with patients and their families, and conducted discharge planning.
