“Nothing is impossible. The word itself says ‘I’m possible’”- Audrey Hepburn
Janie feels that it is a privilege to work with children and help provide a creative, yet safe space to explore their emotions. Building on the child’s own strength can create such positive change. She also enjoys strengthening the parent-child relationship and watching it grow because she thinks a parent can be a child’s best resource at home.
Janie has been with the Summit since 2018 and primarily works with children using play therapy techniques. Her areas of concentration are anxiety, depression, self-esteem, bullying, divorce, ADHD, and life transitions. Janie enjoys incorporating the child’s personal culture into therapy as their own support system.
As a counselor, Janie puts emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and creating an environment for the client to feel safe no matter what is going on. She strives to create a genuine space to share and grow. Janie specializes in working with children because she believes in helping kids find their voice when they feel control has been lost. She strives to be a tool to help a child find their inner strengths to grow into who they want to be. Janie also sees the family as an important aspect of the relationship process. A child’s parents can be their biggest supporters, so they need to be incorporated into counseling and the growth process. Through this process Janie combines Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and Person-Centered theoretical techniques to create specialized plans for each individual client and needs.
Janie completed her undergraduate work with a Bachelor’s degree from University of Georgia in Family and Consumer Sciences. She completed her Master’s program with a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Richmont Graduate University. Janie has a certificate in Child and Adolescent Counseling and has a passion for using play to accentuate every child’s strength.
Janie enjoys spending her free time with family and friends! She loves eating family meals, going to the lake, reading, arts and crafts, and baking.
