Licensed Master Social Worker

“You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” – A.A. Milne

Sarah’s passion includes working with children, adolescents and adults. She specializes in working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and addiction. Sarah brings a person-centered approach to her therapy services, working collaboratively with clients to highlight their personal strengths and values while emphasizing authenticity and empathy. Sarah utilizes a combination of cognitive behavioral and motivational interviewing interventions in accordance with what works best for her clients. She utilizes play therapy modalities when working with children. She aims to create a safe and supportive space for her clients to help them reach their goals and heal from their past.

Sarah completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at The University of Alabama in Human Development and Family Studies and minored in Addiction and Recovery. She then went to The University of Alabama at Birmingham where she earned her Master of Social Work degree. While at the University of Alabama, Sarah received training to work with individuals struggling with addiction and substance use.

Before joining the team at Summit, Sarah worked as a primary therapist at a substance abuse treatment program. She has also provided individual and group therapy and case management services to those in drug court, halfway houses, and centers of incarceration. Sarah has experience working with clients who have had traumatic experiences, ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and self-harm.

When Sarah is not working, she enjoys spending time with friends, family, and her adorable dog, or working out at the gym. She loves to go to the beach and read a good book.

Sarah Mixson is under the directed experience and clinical supervision of Dr. Alice Hoag, LPC, CPCS.
