Licensed Professional Counselor

“Discovering the truth about ourselves is a lifetime’s work, but it’s worth the effort” Mr. Fred Rogers

Janet provides counseling services to individuals, couples, and families. She works with adults of all ages. Her main areas in counseling are couples and families facing addiction and early recovery, parenting a special needs child, divorce, step-families, LGBTQ+, women in transition, mood disorders, and spirituality. She has advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, a researched approach that provides a roadmap for couples to move from disconnection to positive connection.

Janet believes emotional healing comes through the power of relationship and strives to provide a safe and supportive space for this healing. Her main theoretical orientation is Attachment Theory. She believes that we learn how to be in a relationship in our earliest experiences with our families and develop ways to be in the world that works for us, until they no longer do, which often shows up in anxiety, depression, addiction, and relationship problems. Providing a safe, non-judgmental place to examine our relationship to ourselves, others and God can bring healing and freedom.

Janet attended Stetson University and majored in Education. She then attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and studied Christian Education and Family Ministry. She served local churches in education and children’s ministry for several years before returning to school to receive her counseling degree at Georgia State University. Janet worked as a Pastoral Counselor with The Care and Counseling Center of Georgia for 10 years and then became the director of the Family Recovery Center at MARR Addiction Treatment Center, a local drug and treatment center. Janet left MARR in 2016 to pursue private practice with Decatur Family Psychiatry where she enjoyed working with a diverse group of clients. ‌Janet began her work with Summit in January 2021.

Janet is originally from Florida but has been in the Atlanta area for 36 years. She is married and the ‌mother‌ ‌of‌ ‌three‌ ‌adult‌ ‌daughters,‌ ‌one‌ ‌who‌ ‌experiences‌ ‌autism and‌ ‌developmental‌ ‌disability,‌ ‌and‌ ‌three‌ ‌stepdaughters.‌ She enjoys the beauty of Western North Carolina and visits as often as she can. She loves cooking, reading, and being with children, especially her grandchildren!
