Problematic behaviors evolve to cope with a situation or attempt to solve a problem. While these behaviors might provide temporary relief, they often are not effective in the long-term. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) assumes that you are doing the best you can, AND you would benefit from learning new behaviors in all relevant contexts.
DBT skills groups meet once a week for 90 minutes and are led by trained therapists. Participants learn new behaviors and skills through a series of lessons and apply them to their lives. The function of DBT Skills is to help enhance your capabilities. There are four skills taught in DBT:
