skills-1024x386Play Therapy is the use of a child’s most natural language, the language of ‘play’, to help them prevent or resolve emotional, behavioral, and social difficulties in order to reach optimal growth and development. If play is a child’s language, then toys are their words. On this premise, play therapy is used to help children express what is troubling them when they have not yet developed the capacity to adequately express themselves verbally.

What will my child learn?

  • Appropriate Emotional Expression
  • Emotion Regulation
  • Self-Acceptance
  • Healthy Coping Skills
  • Self-control
  • Relational Skills
  • And many, many more…

An initial parent consultation/assessment is always the first step before entering a child into therapy. This way, the parent has the opportunity to provide a full developmental history as well as get to know the therapist who will be working directly with their child.

The more involved the parents…the better. Without parental involvement and support, there is little generalization of skills learned inside the playroom setting. Filial therapy is also available for parents who want to focus on enhancing the parent-child relationship.
