It’s Okay to Not Be Okay
The past few weeks have been surreal to say the least. With everything that has been going on, there have been a lot of fast changes, uncertainty, fear, and emotional stress. During this time, it is important to adjust to our new circumstances, but it is also important to know that it is okay to not be okay.
We all process things differently and not everyone experiences situations the same. You may be at home and practicing social distancing; You may have family you are concerned about that you can no longer visit; a job that is considered essential where you cannot stay at home; or feelings of anxiety or depression that is being caused by the uncertainty and isolation. There are a lot of factors that can impact how you are feeling as we make it through COVID-19 together.
Below are some tips if you are finding it hard adjusting to this new normal or find yourself not feeling okay:
- Reach out for help: The Summit Counseling Center is here for you. We are now offering our services 100% through VideoTherapy, allowing you to receive the help you need while following the guidelines for social distancing. The Summit has also developed a COVID-19 Resource page with blogs, videos, resources, etc to help you this difficult season.
- Lean on friends and family: Call a friend or family member and be intentional about reaching out to others. It is important to maintain and continue to strengthen our relationships even though we may not be able to physically be with our loved ones. These connections can really help, especially during a time that is focused on isolation.
- Practice Self-Care: While the recommendation of starting new projects and taking this time at home to be productive is wonderful, it might not be what you need right now. Take time to focus on self-care and things that will bring you joy. If you want to spend a day relaxing, reading, catching up on Netflix, journaling, working out, etc. Do something that makes you happy.
- Don’t Be Hard on Yourself: Be gentle with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with how others are spending their time during this difficult season. Everyone is taking each day differently. Treat yourself with kindness.
