Licensed Associate Professional Counselor
Staff Associate Therapist

“You are what you believe yourself to be.” – Paulo Coelho

Shelley is a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) providing counseling to children, adolescents, and adults who experience anxiety, depression, personality, and mood disorders. She provides counseling to individuals struggling with identity, aiming to understand who they are whether they are facing mental illness or the daily struggles of life. She is devoted to helping individuals develop healthy relationships with themselves, including their emotions, and confront behavioral concerns. Shelley finds it helpful to assess how childhood or past experiences may influence presenting problems. Shelley believes in using a holistic approach in examining all aspects of the individual and how they affect the whole. She also utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy to help make long-lasting changes and person-centered therapy to meet the individual where they are in every session.

Shelley has experience working with couples addressing childhood trauma relevant to their presenting problems, helping them set new norms in their relationship, developing communication skills, and rebuilding trust. As a couple’s therapist, she noticed issues tend to begin in childhood where they remain unresolved. She developed a passion to focus on kids and adolescents to promote healthier well-being into adult years. Shelley has a unique background serving 6 years in the United States Navy (Fun fact: Why she goes by her last name). Serving as a first responder aboard the ship, she understands the stressors and pressures placed on individuals in this role. She also served as a sexual assault advocate in the Navy and on the heritage committee to bring awareness to different cultures and communities.

Shelley believes in self-care and spends her time reading the Bible and practicing mindfulness techniques. Shelley enjoys connecting with family and friends and serving at her church home. She loves being outdoors in nature, often going for walks, bike rides, or sitting by the lake.

Shaquanta Shelley is under the directed experience and clinical supervision of Dr. Alice Hoag, LPC, CPCS.
